"Fall" In Love Again

Softness

I wanted to share these two diptychs I created tonight, as I am rather fond of them. I'm not sure if it's the soft color, or the image content that speaks to me, but I just feel good about them. I just love it when that happens. :)

Pumpkins and Pixies

Well I finally got out my Halloween decor and snapped a few pictures for the blog. I can't say I bought many new pieces since last year, so it may all look very familiar to my long time readers. But I did get two new items that I absolutely adore! Halloween Pixies created by Miss Cari Kraft. They fit right in with my black and white favorites, and really take center stage this year.

Pianosoiree

I love the way the clock above my piano looks with the Halloween stuff, so it gave me the idea to string old clock faces from my chandelier. Something about them say Halloween to me?? I just love this time of year!

My Creative Space

I wanted to share a few pictures of my home office. I know some of these photos have already been seen in the Dovetales article, but I have added a few more recent pictures into the mix.

The space has really come a long way from the blank space we started with. I am loving the bits of orange and red around the space, it seems to really warm things up nicely. And I love having a way to display and use all the wire baskets I collect (some vintage and some new).  I also traded out the black and white numbers above my desk for a chalkboard and two oil paintings I purchased from Heather. They tie in with the antique sewing desk (in the middle of the room) so perfectly.

The old door I purchased at the Long Beach flea market blends right in with the autumn inspired color pallet. (It's a yellowy-cream). It's funny because I don't think I would ever set out to purchase "orange" home decor, but somehow I acquired quite a few pieces over the years that all seem to play well together. The orange stool you see with the polka dot bobbins, I actually purchased five or so years ago at our first house. It was a flea market find and there were actually two matching stools, and I constantly beat myself up for only buying one of them. (When I went back to buy the second one, it had already sold).

I hope you enjoyed my little tour. It's a fun space that keeps me inspired; and inspiration is a must in a home office.

Fall Do

I don't even want to talk about how long it's been since I've had my hair done.... (since February! ACK!) Well I was finally able to get a new "do" and I decided to try something a little different. My hair girl is between salons and she actually made a house call, so it was kind of an adventure this time around.... :)

I was inspired by Marissa's hair and all of those models I see in catalogs with the fun bangs. (I haven't had bangs since the 8th grade... when it was popular to curl them under with the curling iron. I had braces at the time too and you can see how awful that looked....

Bangs

The first picture I am on the left at my sixth grade graduation and in the second photo I am all dolled up on the right for a Winter Formal dance in eighth grade (I think?) with my younger sister Lindsey. Yes those are blue Christmas bulb earrings..... you know you had some too, don't lie. :)

Well, thankfully, my bangs don't look that bad. I had a hard time getting used to them at first, but I'm slowly starting to come around to liking them... I took a few self portraits so I could share my new hairdo with you all. :)

What do you think? At least the braces are off this time around!

Dovetales Magazine

Have you heard of Dovetales Magazine? It is a fabulous magazine local to the Boston area that is free to it's subscribers. My friend Jo-Anne Coletti is one of the contributing editors and contacted me a few months back to ask if she could feature my home office. I of course jumped at the opportunity, and send her my interview and photos. Well the issue is finally out, and it's a great little piece that also features Jo-Anne's home office, as well as my friend Chris.

If you haven't seen this magazine, I highly recommend checking it out! It's going to be huge I tell ya!

I actually have some updated photos of my home office that I plan to share in the next week or so. :) And this issue has also gotten me in the mood to get out my Halloween decorations, so I hope to have pictures of those soon as well! Yeah, autumn is finally here!!!

Glamour Girl

My niece Makenzie has a birthday coming up... she wanted to have a day at the mall with her girlfriends getting their hair and makeup done for some glamor shots. I think the store she likes is called Justice? Anyway, my sister priced each place that offered this and they were around $40 a girl!!! So we decided that we could make up our own "glamor shots" party for her and her friends.

Makenzie is having a few of her girlfriends over on Sunday (the 21st) where my sisters and I will all take turns doing hair, make-up, and props, while I take their head shots.

To test the idea, we had Makenzie and her sister, Hailey over for a mini-session. We used the best shots of Makenzie to create the invitations for her friends. I designed the invites to incorporate the photos. Here's how they came out:

(I removed the address and contact info for posting on the blog.)

I can't wait to do these shots of all of her little friends! I think they will turn out really cute and then they all will have fun pictures of each other to laugh about.

Matilda

My little cousin Matilda came down for a photo shoot this week. She's the cutest little girl and has such a sweet dainty voice. She takes awhile to warm up to me each visit, but we had my neice Lauren come along to help in that department. Here are my favorites:

Marissa

I was lucky enough to have this gorgeous gal hire me to do some fashion type shots for her portfolio. I'm loving quite a few from this session, but these are probably my top five:

Spotted

Parked

Arch

Rockette

Flip

Marissa was a dream to work with and had such a fun selection of clothes all very "Anthropologie" in style (I love that store!).

I hope you all are having a safe and fun Labor Day holiday!
